ICF members Breedon Ireland and Keohane Readymix were among the companies recognised for excellence at the Aggregates Europe Sustainable Development Awards ceremony which took place on 26th November in the Brussels concert hall ‘La Madeleine’.
The Aggregates Europe Sustainable Development Awards are dedicated to celebrating the “European Rock Stars” of sustainability by recognising and promoting outstanding initiatives in areas such as restoration; environmental best practice; local community partnership; health & safety best practice; economic contribution / added value to society; operational best practice, process or product innovation and best practice in innovation or recycling, marine or manufactured aggregates. By highlighting these best practices, the European aggregates industry hopes to inspire industry-wide innovation and collaboration towards a more sustainable future.
At the awards Breedon Ireland was recognised for excellence and received a special mention for its entry titled ‘The Restoration of Mullaghglass Quarry’ in Co Antrim. In addition, Keohane Readymix was also recognised for excellence in the restoration category for their entry ‘Camp Cliff Stabilisation and Restoration Works, Bandon River, Bandon, Co. Cork.
The Sustainable Development Awards were chosen by a distinguished jury with expertise in the areas of environment, economy, health & safety and communication. In total there were 66 entries from aggregate producers located in 16 countries across Europe.
