The Irish Concrete Federation (ICF), in conjunction with Cavan Monaghan Education & Training Board (CMETB) have collaborated to develop a Level 3 City and Guilds Computer Aided Design (2D) award with an emphasis on precast concrete.

Following consultations with ICF, CMETB have devised a programme in 2D AutoCAD design in precast concrete to introduce trainee designers to the potential of precast concrete design.  The course also incorporates the “Concrete Ticket” a recognised qualification in concrete practice provided by the Irish Concrete Society.

This five-week programme is structured to suit a range of local precast concrete employers who are participating on the course including Wright Quarry Products, Banagher Precast Concrete and Flood Flooring.  The course commenced on 28th June and operates weekly on Fridays and Saturdays in the FET campus, Dublin Rd, Cavan.

Upon completion of this course learners will have the essential skills in how to use Computer Aided Design software; they will also interact with industry colleagues and gain enhanced knowledge of developments in precast concrete from guest speakers.

The course is funded under a SOLAS initiative called ‘Skills to Advance’ which is part of a framework to support working lives and enterprise growth in Ireland. Skills to Advance is designed to provide training to people who are currently in employment in order to up-skill and facilitate continuous professional development.
